Main Duties

The Laboratory Scientist is to perform the analytical services provided by the as per the ISO 17025 and LAB Quality Manual to meet the goals and objectives of DAL and ADLQ in general.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development, review, and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in accordance with the latest version of SOP 003 – Staff Duties and Training.

  • Comply with the Laboratory Quality Manual (LQM) principle that defines staff responsibilities based on individual training records approved by the Lab Director.

  • Provide training to permanent and temporary staff in assigned SOPs and task areas, as defined by the LQM and the operational needs of DAL and ADLQ.

  • Perform laboratory and instrumental activities strictly according to approved SOPs and recorded training.

  • Follow all measures outlined in the SOPs related to laboratory safety, hygiene, and security.

  • Adhere to the WADA Code of Ethics and the International Standard for Laboratories.

  • Assist in daily laboratory operations, ensuring tidiness, cleanliness of glassware and apparatus, and the proper supply of materials.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all analytical results, reports, and client or sports authority data, except where publication is authorized (e.g., research papers).

  • Secure all laboratory documentation, data, and records in both electronic and hardcopy formats.

  • Refrain from sharing laboratory data through media, journalists, or electronic and social platforms.

  • Follow laboratory task priorities as defined by DAL management, including day-to-day instructions.

  • Participate in scientific knowledge exchange within the laboratory and stay informed on current literature, regulations, standards, and technological developments.

  • Maintain an international scientific orientation by engaging with professionals from other accredited anti-doping laboratories.

  • Complete all assigned work within specified timeframes and quality standards.

  • Avoid engaging in activities unrelated to laboratory duties unless explicitly approved by Lab management.

  • Uphold ethical standards at all times, including refraining from any actions that could assist athletes in doping.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of chemistry, particularly in analytical chemistry.

  • Understanding of anti-doping analytical technologies and laboratory methodologies.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Systematic and analytical thinking with attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in computer applications including MS Windows (Word, Excel, spreadsheets) and scientific or instrumental software systems.

  • Fluency in English; Arabic is an advantage.

  • Ability to present complex scientific information clearly to a range of audiences.

  • Skills in building or maintaining research and analytical equipment (desirable).

  • Demonstrated commitment to high standards and quality assurance.

  • Competence in the management and handling of laboratory instrumentation.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and contribute effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

  • A publication record of at least two scientific papers (desirable).

Preferred Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an anti-doping or analytical laboratory environment.

  • Willingness to train and work across additional laboratory sections (desirable).

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related discipline.

  • Certification as a Scientist in at least one laboratory section.
