Café Scientifique is an informal gathering where people meet in cafés or public spaces to explore scientific topics in a relaxed, conversational setting. Originating in the UK, the concept was designed to make science accessible and engaging for everyone, regardless of background. It later reached Qatar, where the Anti-Doping Lab Qatar (ADLQ) became the first institution in the country to host Café Scientifique events, starting in 2015, and paving the way for open scientific dialogue in the region.
Over time, we’ve presented a range of fascinating topics that truly captured the audience’s attention including “Hey Sugar, You’re Killing Me”, which explored the health impacts of sugar; “Climate Change: True or Myth?”, which sparked critical conversations around environmental science and public perception; and “Nurture or Nature?”, which delved into the age-old debate about genetics versus environment in shaping human behavior.
Our goal is simple: just science, in easy language that everyone can understand. These sessions are designed to be thought-provoking and interactive, with experts introducing the topic and attendees engaging in open dialogue no jargon, no lectures, just curiosity and conversation.
